Lansing Family Health & Wellness is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit clinic serving Ashe County and surrounding communities. We believe no one should go without care because of what’s in their wallet.
What We Do
We provide comprehensive healthcare services regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Our sliding fee scale ensures care is accessible to every member of our community.
Routine physicals, sick visits, lab work, and ongoing health management for adults. The foundation of keeping our community healthy.
Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, COPD, and thyroid disorders. Coordinated, long-term care plans that work for your life.
Depression and anxiety screening, medication management, and referrals. Because mental health is health.
Cancer screenings, wellness checks, immunizations, and health education. Catching problems early saves lives and money.
Help navigating patient assistance programs and finding affordable prescriptions. No one should skip medication because of cost.
Referrals to specialists, social services navigation, and community resource connections when you need more than we can provide.
“After 44 years in healthcare, I knew these mountains needed a place where anyone could walk in and get care — no insurance card required, no questions about money first. Just care.”
— Margaret Rutter, FNP-C, Founder
Margaret founded Lansing Family Health & Wellness in June 2025 after seeing too many of her Appalachian neighbors go without basic healthcare. Operating from the historic Dr. Clay building — once home to the area’s beloved country doctor — the clinic now serves over 150 patients, roughly 25% of Ashe County’s uninsured population. The need only grew after Hurricane Helene devastated the region.
Who We Serve
Our doors are open to everyone, with a special focus on those who face the biggest barriers to healthcare in our rural community.
Sliding fee scale based on income and family size. We work with you to make care affordable.
We accept Medicare and Medicaid and are here for patients who struggle to find a local provider.
If the storm brought you here or disrupted your care, we’re here to help you get back on your feet.
We don’t turn anyone away for inability to pay. Period.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, every dollar goes directly to patient care. Your donation helps us serve our most vulnerable neighbors.
